First Hire at a Startup
I was the first engineer at Startup X. That meant building everything — the app, the deploy pipeline, the monitoring, the "why is the database on fire at 2am" investigations. I worked directly with the founders to figure out what the product should be and then actually build it.
##What happened
- Shipped the first version in 3 months. Good enough to raise a seed round on.
- Grew the platform to 100k+ monthly users.
- Hired the first 5 engineers and tried not to mess up the culture.
Founding engineer means you do everything. I wrote backend code, designed UI mockups, configured DNS records, and once fixed the office printer.
